Henri Matisse (1869 - 1954), Le Cateau, Picardy, France - The artist often regarded as one the most important French painters of the 20th century. Henri Matisse pursued the expressiveness of color throughout his career. His subjects were largely domestic or figurative with a distinct Mediterranean flavor. Matisse's drawings, lithographs and paintings are world famous. His last works were completed from a wheelchair including the famous "Cutouts" including the Blue Nudes.
